#1 Innsbruck is “in” – in the summer, too!

“Innsbruck, oh beautiful alpine town!” – is how the song goes. And it’s true! Nowhere else do mountains and city lie so close together. If you say the word “Innsbruck”, you should also say “Golden Roof” or “Goldenes Dachl” in German. Taking a selfie in front of this landmark with its 2,657 gold-plated roofing shingles is a must. Also unmissable: the Imperial Palace (“Kaiserliche Hofburg”), the colourful rows of houses on the banks of the River Inn and the vibrant streets with numerous cafés and boutiques. Take the “Nordkette” cable car and float up from the historic centre to 2,300 metres above sea level to reach the highest “city stroll” in the Alps in the twinkling of an eye. As you can tell: in Innsbruck, you’ll get the full dose of summer fun! You can reach the Tyrolean state capital in only 25 minutes by car from the NIDUM.

#2 Lake Achensee: a “must-see” in Tyrol

It’s not only known as the “Fjord of the Alps, but also as the Tyrolean sea: Lake Achensee. In summer, the atmosphere here is not what one would expect to find in the mountains: beaches with water as clear as in the Caribbean. Sailors and surfers riding the waves. Take a cruise-style boat trip, and you will almost believe that you’re on the open ocean. If you want to experience the largest lake in Tyrol from a bird's-eye perspective, why not climb up one of the surrounding mountain peaks or go paragliding above this jewel in emerald green and ultramarine blue.
 

#3 Highline179: A view with a kick

406 metres long, 114 metres high and only 1.20 metres wide – it’s sure to give you butterflies. The Highline179 in Reutte is the world’s longest Tibetan-style pedestrian suspension bridge, and even features in the Guinness Book of Records. The bridge stretches high above the B179 road and connects two additional highlights: the Ehrenberg castle ruins and Fort Claudia. This spectacular construction is an experience in itself, a test of courage for some, and guarantees superb views – only flying is better!

#4 On the trail of silver in Schwaz

Narrow passageways, damp walls and an underground experience: the silver mine made the town Schwaz the largest, richest mining centre in the world during the late Middle Ages. Up to 85 percent of the silver traded worldwide came from this mine. After travelling down 800 metres in the historic mountain railway, you follow the trail of the miners and experience the exertions they had to cope with. With a constant temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, the mine offers a welcome cool down and is a pleasant environment for allergy sufferers.

#5 A sparkling Swarovski-style experience

The Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens are more than a glitter paradise. Your eyes will sparkle almost as brightly as the works by international artists in this huge experience world. Strolling into the head of the green Giant, you’ll end up in 17 mystical Chambers of Wonder. On hot summer days, you can find the perfect cool environment in the Silent Light Chamber of Wonder, which offers minus temperatures and real snowfall. The powerful Giant is surrounded by a garden spanning 7.5 hectares with numerous attractions. These include the surreal crystal cloud above the black Mirror Pool, or the merry-go-round decorated with 15 million crystals.
 

#6 Adrenalin central Area 47

Think of a few excuses now – you’re going to need them. The largest outdoor leisure park in Austria at the entrance to the Ötztal Valley is not for people with weak nerves. What you can experience in Area 47 will make even hardcore adrenalin junkies tremble. So we have a tip for you: only start “talking big” after you have tried out the Freefall Slide or the Liane Mega-Swing. Almost vertical slides, a giant freefall swing, the highest rope course in Austria, cannonball, blobbing and much more will get your pulse racing and put a smile on your face, leaving you wanting only one thing: to do it again.

#007 On a secret mission in Sölden

When things get too hot in the valley, it’s time to float up to 3,048 metres above sea level in a gondola to visit the “007 Elements” World of Experience in Sölden. Here, inside the Gaislachkogel Mountain, you can immerse yourself in the filmset of “Spectre”. Even the entrance is superbly Bond-style: visitors pass through the “Barrel of the Gun” at point blank range as they walk into the exhibition. Highlights include the “Tech Lab” with its agent gismos, Bond’s plane wreck and the Legacy Hall. To round off your visit to the summit in the same way that the most famous agent on the planet would, you can sip an espresso or a martini – shaken, not stirred – on the terrace of the ice Q gourmet restaurant!

#8 Majestic waterfalls, gorges & ravines

In a place where water has been flowing down from the mountain into the valley for centuries, gorges and ravines have cut into the rock in many places. I would like to recommend a water sport to try out – but it’s hardly possible. That’s because there are so many in Tyrol and Seefeld: you’d better decide for yourself! #9 In freefall from Europa Bridge

#10 The Alpine Zoo will put a smile on your face

Would you like to get a live insight into the biodiversity of the Alps? The “Alpenzoo” nestles against the steep mountainside to the north of the state capital. 2,000 indigenous animals from 150 different species roam around here, above the rooftops of Innsbruck. The zoo makes a valuable contribution to nature conservation and to preserving species that are under threat. A magnificent brown bear creeps through his compound. A little further on, the otters paddle swiftly through the water. High above on a tree, a golden eagle peers down at the visitors and the wolves howl in competition with Innsbruck’s church bells.
